Milk, Cookies, & Social Change: Can I Have Seconds?
MCSC is an open forum for students to learn about different issues in our world
and an outlet to exchange their ideas and views with others. The event begins
with a relevant keynote speaker and then participants are separated into four
groups. Each group attends all four workshops on varying social issues led
by either: community partners, UF faculty or Service Ambassadors. The issues
for MCSC fall '06 were Educational Inequality, Sustainability, Poverty
& Homelessness and Civic Engagement. The topics vary year to year. Come
for the social change and stay for the free milk and cookies...or vice versa.
Registration forms are available for this event in the fall semester. Open
to all UF students.
Desserts for Change
D4C occurs each month throughout the academic year and culminates social issue
awareness, service and reflection into one program. The social issue awareness
component occurs on a weekday evening in which either a community partner,
UF faculty or UF student who is an expert regarding the issue gives a lecture.
These lectures are open to the entire UF student body.
The service and reflection component occurs either the Saturday or Sunday morning to early afternoon (this portion occurs at the end of the week in which the lecture takes place). The service projects are open for UF student organizations to participate in with approximately 10-15 of their student members. These students are strongly encouraged to attend the preceding lecture. If your student organization is interested in participating in a D4C, please contact us. ]
Gainesville Tours
Gainesville Tours is an exciting program that brings UF students outside of the campus square and reveals the unique history of the Gainesville community; as well as the issues that lie within. Service Ambassadors lead this tour as well as an accompanying discussion.
