Our Mission

The mission of the Gator Teens Mentors program is to provide "at-risk" high school students with the resources and skills to successfully pursue a furthered education. The method of which the Gator Teens Mentors achieves their mission is two-fold. First, the organization matches each high school student with a University of Florida volunteer, student mentor to serve as a positive influence and role-model for the high school student. Second, the mentors and the organization use their interactions with the high school students to improve upon life-long skills, academic skills, and preparation for a furthered education.

Our Goals

What We Do

Unfortunately, statistics show that children that are deemed "at-risk" and grow up in low-income households are significantly less likely to graduate from high school. These students typically face challenges and disadvantages every day that often go unrecognized and unresolved. Many of these students do not even consider college, post-secondary school, or vocational school as a possibility in their future. Through the support and guidance of our mentors, mixed with a curriculum of knowledge and resources, the Gator Teens Mentors attempt to help these students reach their truest potential.

In collaboration with a local Gainesville high school, Gator Teens Mentors unites an "at-risk" high school mentee with a University of Florida volunteer, student mentor. At weekly meetings, our mentors and mentees discuss school, family, and future; as well as, working to improve upon academic and life-long skills and future education preparation.

Every child has the potential for greatness; but some children have great obstacles to overcome along the way. We, as the Gator Teens Mentors, hope to lend a hand to these students in overcoming their obstacles.
